This piece is a reflection of home, longing, and identity—a visual journey held inside the human heart.
Born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, I carry the bosque, cottonwoods, Sandia Mountains, and pink sunsets within me. Though I earned my BFA from the University of New Mexico, I eventually set art aside in search of stability. The move to Phoenix, Arizona, was driven by opportunity—and over time, this vibrant desert city began to ground me in ways I didn’t expect.
This painting marks a return—not just to art, but to myself. It captures the feeling of living between two places: the one that raised me and the one that now inspires me. The anatomical heart holds an Albuquerque landscape—a dreamy memory nested inside the expansive, starlit Arizona desert. The lone wolf, watching quietly from the outer edge, is a homage to my alma mater, “The Lobos,” but also symbolizes the quiet strength and resilience required to rediscover oneself as an artist after navigating a corporate world that never quite felt like home.
Lone Wolf is a meditation on becoming whole again. Between past and present. Between places. Between who I was—and who I’m becoming, with renewed purpose and pride.
